Scholarly Communication: Promoting Research

An introductory guide to issues in scholarly communication, including scholarly publishing, copyright, author rights, open access, open educational resources, and institutional repositories.

Increasing Research Impact

University of California suggests a plan for authors to increase their research impact and make their works visible, accessible, and reusable.

  • Use persistent identifiers (e.g. ORCIDs, DOIs) to disambiguate or link.
  • Publish in fully OA journals or choose OA options.
  • Make social media engagement a habit.
  • Engage your audience in meaningful conversations.
  • Connect with other researchers.
  • Appeal to various audiences via multiple publications.
  • Check back in on your goals.

What is ORCID?

ORCID is a non-profit organization that provides researchers with a persistent digital identifier (an ORCID iD) that they own and control, and that distinguishes them from every other researcher.

You can also connect your ORCID iD with your professional information—affiliations, grants, publications, peer review, and more.

Benefits of ORCID iDs

  • Eliminate name ambiguity
  • Clearly identify researchers' work and achievements
  • Enhance discoverability of researchers' work
  • Save time in filling out forms/documents
  • Allow researchers to meet funder and publisher requirements

Selected Works at ERAU

Selected Works Gallery at ERAU enables faculty and staff to easily create profile pages to highlight their work at ERAU and other institutions.

This personal Selected Works site provides space to share areas of specialty, a curriculum vitae, and display a photograph.

Selected Works pages do not interact with the ERAU faculty directory and are not a substitute for posting work in ERAU's Institutional Repository, Scholarly Commons.
